First Time Riding At McLarty MX Park

Nothing about a first visit here is complicated, but it helps to know how the day runs before you are standing at the gate with the truck still hooked up.

Check The Date First

This is the one that catches people out, so it goes first. We do not run every weekend. There is no fixed weekly schedule - the park opens on announced dates only, and those dates are posted on the schedule page and on our Facebook page.

If you take one thing from this page, take that. Check the schedule before you drive, and if anything about it is unclear, ring the park. We would far rather answer the phone than have somebody drive out for nothing.

There Is No Sign-Up To Do Beforehand

No membership, no card, no account. On most practice and race days you simply come to the tower when you arrive, sign in, and pay at the gate. Riders under 18 need a parent or legal guardian to sign for them, so whoever that is needs to be there in person.

What To Have With You

  • Full gear - helmet, boots, the lot. It goes on for every lap, however short the session.
  • Cash or a card. Both are fine at the gate.
  • A chair for anybody who came to watch.
  • A canopy if it is going to be hot. Shade is limited out here.
  • Whoever signs for a rider under 18.

Where To Put The Truck

There is plenty of parking and pit space. If you are staying over, camping is welcome and front row RV spots with power and water hookups can be reserved by text. No ground fires anywhere on the property.

What The Track Is Like

Two tracks, both sandy loam. One is laid out for racing and the other gives riders room to build speed and work on lines. The layout is big enough that A riders can hold it open and forgiving enough that a nine year old on a 65 is not out of their depth.

If somebody has come to watch you, they will be able to see most of it. The track sits in an open field, so from most spots in the pits you can follow around seventy percent of the layout. Parents in particular tend to notice that.

One Rule People Get Wrong

Pit bikes are not permitted anywhere on the property. Not in the pits, not on the access roads, nowhere. That one gets people sent home, so leave them at the house.
