Where Columbia Riders Come To Race

Riders from Columbia have a short list of places worth trailering to. McLarty MX Park makes it because of the dirt: sandy loam mixed our own way, so it keeps its shape through the day instead of baking into a freeway.

What Makes This Track Different

Sandy loam is the whole point. It drains after a shower, it takes a rip, and it gives you grip where you expect to be sliding. That is why riders trailer past closer tracks to get here.

Most people turn this into an overnight. Come in Friday, camp at the track, and be signed in before gates on Saturday rather than driving at daybreak.

On The Gate

Racers, Families And First-Timers

Bring the family. From most spots in the pits you can watch something like seventy percent of the track, which is exactly what a parent wants when their nine year old is out there.

Two Separate Tracks

Both tracks were rebuilt and upgraded in 2022, and both get worked on between every event.

Prepped Before You Roll In

The track is watered and ripped before gates open, and it gets worked through the day on race days.

You Can See The Whole Thing

The layout sits in an open field, so from most spots in the pits you can watch about 70 percent of the track. Parents love it.

A Few Things To Sort Out First

Look at the schedule, then load the bike. Riders sign in at the tower when they arrive and pay at the gate - under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian signature.

Questions From Columbia Riders

How far is McLarty MX Park from Columbia, TN?

The park is at 4015 County Highway 35 in Horton, Alabama, roughly 105 miles north of Columbia in a straight line. Because of the river and the lake, the road route can be noticeably longer - the map on this page shows the real driving distance and time from Columbia.

Is there a motocross track near Columbia?

McLarty MX Park is the one most Columbia riders end up at. It is a couple of hours on the road away in Horton, with two prepped sandy loam tracks and announced race and practice days.

What kind of dirt is the track?

Sandy loam - Alabama red clay mixed with our own blend of wood shavings. It holds moisture, keeps traction, and stops the track turning into a dust bowl.

What classes do you run?

Mini E and 51cc through 65, 85, Supermini, Schoolboy, Girls, Women, 250, Open, College Boy and the 25, 35 and 45 plus classes. The exact list for a given weekend depends on the series running.

Is the park open every weekend?

No. We open on announced dates only. Check the schedule page before you load up - it lists every date we have on the books along with any weather notices.

Are pit bikes allowed?

No. Pit bike riding is not permitted anywhere on the property. That rule gets enforced.
